This Information is designed
to help you if:
You are leaving school and want to keep playing netball;
You are shifting to Wellington and want to find a club;
You are returning to netball after a break;
You are wanting to get into coaching a club team.
We have grades available for serious
competition with excellent club players as well as grades for the more social
player.
Our Premier 1 competition contributes to the ANZ Championship
teams and Wellington NPC team. It is a high standard of competition.
Our top College teams play in Premier and Premier Reserve.
Our senior grades, particularly senior 2 and 3 are more focused on the social
player but still in a club environment. Senior 1 is more competitive but contains
a number of social teams.
If you are leaving School….
…. And you want to play in a good standard of competition in Wellington
you need to look for a club which has Premier level teams, it is good to trial
at a club which has a range of Premier teams so that you get a feel for where
you belong. Contact the club and don’t be afraid to ask questions about coaches,
club activities or any of the things that are important to you. It is important
to find a club where you will feel comfortable and where you can play at the
level that will help you develop your play.
… And you want to play
for fun and exercise you should look for a club which offers more social
teams in senior grades. Always remember that when you are joining a club you
are making a commitment to be part of a team for the whole season. Contact the
club and don’t be afraid to ask questions about teams and club activities or
any of the things that are important to you. The club may require you to attend
trials. Don’t be put off as it is a good way to get a feel for how the club
operates and to work out if it is what you are looking for. If you want to play
a more social grade make it clear from the start so that the club can place
you in the right team. It is important to find a club where you will feel comfortable
and where you can play at the level which you will enjoy participating.
… And you want to play
with a group of friends you could approach a club and ask to enter
a team under their umbrella. You will have to pay their fees and will be subject
to any rules they have. We do have “member teams” which are teams playing as
single team clubs. If you want to set this up you need to talk to us. The cost
of affiliation is $100, and then an annual registration fee of $922.50 per team
for the season (fee covers 12 players). You will also need to register and purchase
a uniform.
If you are new to Wellington….Contact
the clubs and find out a bit more about them. If you are a representative player
transferring from another region contact us so that we can add you to our talented
players data-base and keep you in touch with player development opportunities
and representative trials.

focused on attracting and retaining Wellington’s finest netball talent.
In 2005 the club announced a fantastic long-term partnership with successful
realy firm, Just Paterson, and is now known as Just PAterson SMOG (JP SMOG)
Thanks to Asics and Shoe Clinic, every year we provide scholarships to school
leavers/promising players who show potential in the game.

and will be holding weeking club drinks there on Saturday nights. These are
a great way to to socialize with your team and get to know others in the club
too.
Coaching: SMOG is focused on providing top quality coaches
for all teams. Players have a lot of opportunity to coach if they wish. We encourage
coaches to attend courses to improve their skills and experience and gain further
qualifications. These courses are paid for by the club and an incentive for
player-coaches is that they do not pay subs.
