Representative Programmes
U16, U18 & Open (18+)
Teams will be selected to represent our Centre in each of the following age grades in 2022:
Under 16 up to 2 teams (dependent on number/quality at trials)
Under 18 up to 2 teams (dependent on number/quality at trials)
Open (18+) (1 team)
We would love to welcome a large pool of players to make the most of this opportunity!
Trial registrations
U16 & U18 player registration due to open late March - now open, register online HERE
Open (18+) player registration due to open late June
Trial registration must be submitted either by the trialist themselves or on behalf of the trialist prior to attending trials. For example, a previous Coach or School Sports Coordinator can submit on behalf of the trialist so long as the trialist is aware and agrees to attend.
Coaches/Sport Coordinators - please advise players if you are nominating on their behalf so they know to attend.
Following changes due to Covid-19 in 2020, our U16, U18 and Open (18+) programmes revert back to follow a more traditional representative programme format whereby trials will be held following which teams will be selected (number will depend on talent pool available). Named players will then be expected to commit to attend weekly team trainings (two per week - Tuesdays & Sundays 6pm-8pm) along with up to four game days/tournaments in the build up to a final regional/national level tournament to end the season in July.
We did not select U14 age grade rep teams in 2021. Instead we offer an U14 rep development programme starting in August. Click here for more details.
Rep trial eligibility
Trialists must trial for their relevant age group only.
Trialists may not trial for a higher age group unless dispensation has been granted by the Netball Wellington Centre Community Director. This means U16 will not be considered for U18 trials & U14 will not be considered for U16 trials. Likewise any player younger than 18 will not be considered for Open (18+) team trials.
As each of the five netball centres within the Wellington region (Netball Wellington Centre, Netball Hutt Valley Centre, Kapi Mana Netball Centre, Netball Kapiti and Netball Wairarapa) may select their own U16, U18 and Open (18+) teams in 2022, there will be no dispensations granted to trial for another centre. The sole exception is for individuals who are allowed to play Winter Competition within two netball centres (eg, school team + club team). In this instance, following non-selection at their first choice of centre, a player may decide to trial for their alternative netball centre of their own free will. Dispensation is not required.
Where a Centre is unable to hold their own rep age-grade trials, players are free to choose to trial for an alternative Centre. For transparency we ask that the affiliated Centre gets in touch to confirm/advise if not intending to select their own team.
Inability to attend all trial dates
Inability to attend all trial dates may impact trialists.
We strongly recommend that you make every effort to make yourself available to attend all trials for your age group to get the best chance to be observed. Please be sure to indicate any absences clearly when you register and provide a clear reason why. This will be provided to the Selection Panel to allow due consideration to be given to the best of their abilities in your absence.
Dispensation
In special circumstances a dispensation may be granted to those who provide valid reason for missing more than one trial. If seeking dispensation please email an outline of your valid reason for absence to admin@netballwellington.co.nz. Dispensations granted at the discretion of NWC Community Director and Selection Panel.
Fees
Players are expected to pay a fee to be involved in our representative programme. Final fees to be confirmed. Fees advised at time of registration. The total amount may be subject to change depending on the time that players remain engaged in the programme. At this stage, transport costs to/from game days/tournaments in the lead-up to nationals/final tournament will be user pays.
To be added to our mail list & receive notification once registrations open, email admin@netballwellington.co.nz providing your name & age group. Please contact our Community Development Officer John at admin@netballwellington.co.nz with any additional queries.
