Team Operations Manager - New Zealand Olympic Committee (closes 30 Oct 2023)


The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) is an independent, charitable organisation responsible for providing support and resources to enable New Zealand athletes to achieve at the highest levels of their sport and to excel at Olympic, Commonwealth and Youth Games. The NZOC is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) as the representative body in New Zealand responsible for developing, promoting, and protecting Olympic and Commonwealth sport in this country as well as having responsibility for the selection and organising of New Zealand teams to Olympic, Commonwealth and International Youth Games.

Reporting to the Head of Team Operations, the Team Operations Manager is a member of the Team Operations unit and will have primary responsibility to:

  • Manage and support allocated projects and activities associated with the operational delivery of New Zealand teams to Games.
  • Assist the Head of Team Operations to develop and implement the operational plans, processes and systems for the New Zealand Team to Games.
  • Support the Head of Team Operations with the development and tracking of the overall campaign plans for allocated Pre-Elite Games.

The Team Operations Manager's key projects and activities will include team registration, team travel, transport, uniform distribution, logistics, freight & equipment, accommodation & village housing, village setup, Games-time operations, and database management.  As Planning Lead for allocated Pre-Elite Games, you'll coordinate activities, be the key contact with the Organising Committee, liaise with the Chef de Mission, conduct site planning, and support the Team Services Director and Head of Team Operations in defining the performance support team roles and the selection of the personnel.  Additionally, you'll contribute to the development and tracking of team plans for Elite Games and contribute to the Leadership Groups of allocated Games.

This is an integral relationship, planning and delivery role, and is vital to the successful delivery of the performance-focused team environment at each Games. To secure this role, you must have at least five years' experience in the sport management sector (preferably high performance sport) in a similar styled team services role or significant experience in the field of project and event management.   Experience working at multi-sport pinnacle events would be an advantage. It is essential you have highly developed project and relationship management skills. You'll have a reputation for contributing significantly to wider organisational goals as a result of working collaboratively at all levels with staff, partners and stakeholders, and you'll be widely regarded as a respected achiever, someone who strives for excellence.  Your Referees will describe you as a "must have" team member, someone who is able to work closely with other talented people to deliver exceptional outcomes even when under significant pressure. Relevant tertiary qualifications are required.   Candidates presenting with logistics experience will have an advantage.
