Sport Psychologist - High Performance Sport NZ (closes 26 Sep 2025)


An exciting opportunity is available for a qualified and experienced Psychologist to join the High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) multidisciplinary Performance Support team. This role is embedded within the HPSNZ Athlete Performance Support team and involves working closely with National Sporting Organisations (NSOs).

The Sport Psychologist will lead athlete wellbeing and performance initiatives, providing technical leadership and a range of psychological services, including policy and program development, system-wide assessment, prevention efforts, consultation, individual and group interventions, sport coach consultation/support, and crisis triage.

The position will also include co-managing the Sport Psychology Contractors who contribute to health and performance services. The successful candidate will become part of a dedicated, integrated multidisciplinary team, committed to a holistic approach to health, wellbeing, and performance to help athletes achieve their goals in sport and life.

Requirements:

  • Registered psychologist or registration eligible with the New Zealand Psychologist Board.
  • Experience in the following relevant areas, including:
    • At least 4+ years of providing psychological services in settings such as university counselling centres, community mental health, outpatient/inpatient hospitals, or private practice.
    • Ideally, 4+ years of experience delivering psychological services within club/community or elite sports contexts (e.g., professional, or Olympic sports).
