Learning and Organisational Development Lead - High Performance Sport NZ (closes 16 Mar 2025)

Location:       Wellington or Auckland

Company:      Sport NZ Group (Sport NZ, High Performance Sport NZ)

We're on the hunt for a dynamic Learning and Organisational Development Lead to spearhead our learning initiatives and elevate our workforce to new heights. In this role, you'll be the architect of our learning, talent, and performance management landscape, designing impactful programmes that empower our people and align with our strategic vision.

Who we are

Sport New Zealand and High-Performance Sport New Zealand have a shared purpose - to contribute to the wellbeing of everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand.  As a crown agency, we promote and support quality experiences in play, active recreation, and sport, including elite sport, to improve levels of physical activity and, through this, ensure the greatest impact on wellbeing for all New Zealanders.

Our vision is "Every Body Active" (Sport NZ) through to "Inspiring Performance Every Day" (HPSNZ).  The Group Values we live by are He Tangata (We stand for the people), Mahi Toa (We strive for the remarkable), and Ngātahi (We're better together).

Why we need you

You'll be joining at the right time as we start a new strategic period, with a refreshed Group People Plan.  Some good work has been started, and we now need you to take the reins and drive the L&OD agenda forward.

You will be responsible for enhancing kaimahi (employee) skills, leadership capabilities, and overall organisational effectiveness through workforce capability. A hands-on role, you will be designing, sourcing, implementing, and managing comprehensive learning and development programmes.  You'll also lead the design and delivery of work programmes for talent identification and people performance, aligned to Group, Sport NZ, and High Performance Sport NZ strategic objectives.

Who you are

You thrive on working with diverse groups and a specialist, highly technical workforce with a variety of skillsets, expertise, and disciplines.  Along with your customer-centric and team attitude, you can adapt your approach and thought leadership to build strong relationships and support the development of individuals through to Group systems.

You understand the bigger picture, and the role we play as a kaitiaki of our country's play, active recreation and sporting system - from grassroots to elite sport.  You thrive in a high performance environment, able to maximise the benefits and make the link between workforce planning, talent management, performance management, and learning and development.

Your strong L&OD expertise, and proven experience, will ensure you enjoy autonomy in your role, with support from the Group Manager, People & Culture, who you will report to.  The GM will also encourage you to pursue and adopt contemporary, fit-for-purpose people practices.  You'll be part of a unique P&C team, comprised of a People function (internal workforce focus) and a DEI function (external sector focus, with particularly emphasis on Women & Girls, and Disability).  Our team take pride in our organisations purpose, strongly support each other, and know when to roll up the sleeves to help.

If this sounds like you, and you're looking for a role where you can genuinely mark your mark in an exciting organisation and sector, then apply now!
