In line with HPSNZ's ongoing commitment to women in high performance sport we are establishing a second Te Hāpaitanga cohort to support the development of emerging and high potential female coaches

Te Hāpaitanga is a holistic coach development initiative designed in response to the complex and interconnected challenges preventing female coaches from pursing and maintaining a career in high performance sport.

The 18-month Initiative is building on the success of the first cohort and will again  provide a range of opportunities for up to 16 future or emerging female high performance coaches to test and develop their coaching capability, and to develop new skills to navigate a complex and challenging career in high performance sport.

Te Hāpaitanga will apply a needs-based approach, utilising proven coach development practices, with input and guidance from experienced female coaches. The Initiative includes on the job one-on-one mentor support; group residentials; scholarship support; and the opportunity to network and develop within a community of coaches. 

Who are we looking for?

Applications are open to women coaching in both paid (full-time, part-time or contract) or unpaid coaching positions.

Te Hāpaitanga is targeted at women who:

• are currently coaching athletes on the performance or high performance pathway; or
• have been identified as a potential high performance coach but are not currently coaching regularly (for example a retiring or retired elite athlete or a woman who has temporarily left coaching but is interested in returning).

HPSNZ encourages women from diverse backgrounds, including those who identify as Maori and/or Pasifika, to apply.

How to apply?

Coaches will be selected through an open and competitive application process as set out in the Te Hāpaitanga Guidelines document.

All applications must:

• Be submitted by the coach using the Te Hāpaitanga link on the HPSNZ Careers page.
• Include a video response, recorded through the Sonru platform, answering the following two questions:
• Tell a story where you felt you were in the role of coach. How did you know you were coaching? Describe the event in detail, including the impact you had on the athlete and/or team
• Tell a story of being challenged. How did you deal with the situation and what did you learn from the experience?
• Include a NSO Endorsement Form completed by the coach's NSO Sponsor.

Upon receipt of the initial application, all applying coaches will receive a personalised Sonru link to be completed on or before 04 October 2021.  Any issues or concerns can be sent to WHPScoaching@hpsnz.org.nz
