Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a part-time (20 hours/week) Sports Administrator to join the University Recreation Wellington team.

The Sports Administrator works closely with the Sports Manager to deliver a comprehensive range of sporting opportunities to the student community, ensuring students have access to an inclusive, balanced and high-quality sporting model that provides opportunities for social through to performance participation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and delivery of a comprehensive and effective sport participation model that includes:- Social through to competitive sport- Victoria University of Wellington's University and Tertiary Sport NZ participation- Sports Leagues- Tournaments and events
  • Assist with the Athlete Support service strand, working to ensure student athletes are identified, supported and celebrated
  • Assist in ensuring all sport spaces and equipment are safe, accessible, and performing as required
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to complement delivery, actively participating in robust planning review processes and considering equity and diversity at all times
  • Coordinating the sports referee staffing pool to support the department through the delivery of sports leagues

Along with a proven ability to multi-task and communicate effectively, essentials to apply for the role include the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • The ability to be self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft 365 programmes

Additional desired skills/experience include the following:

  • Experience coordinating and supervising Sport and/or recreational events
  • Experience in a physical education or recreation environment
  • Current first-aid certificate

Key requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Physical Education, Recreation or another related discipline
  • Experience in Recreation or Sports Administration
  • A current First-Aid certificate
  • Experience in planning and delivering sporting/recreational events
  • Knowledge of the university, tertiary and student environment is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to maintain a fully vaccinated status
