General Manager - Christchurch Netball Centre (April 2023)

Full time
Christchurch Central, Canterbury

Christchurch Netball Centre is embarking on an exciting period of change as we seek to achieve our strategic objectives while shifting to a brand new, purpose-built indoor facility. We continue to lead and innovate with the netball community and grow and develop our players and the game itself.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic General Manager to join our dynamic organisation and prepare us for our new world and way of working.  As our General Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Christchurch Netball as well as developing and implementing strategies to achieve our goals and lead our team towards success.  You will also play a key role in supporting our shift to our new facility, this includes supporting our board to define our operating model and execute on our plan.

Key accountability will include:

  • Strategic execution – While reporting to two boards, support the development and execution of our strategic plans for Christchurch Netball and our new facility (‘Netsal’).   We need you to be future-focused with a healthy dose of grit and determination to support both boards to deliver.
  • Partnership and community engagement – We need you to continue to build strong relationships, identify key demographics, support our diversification, build quality partnerships at all levels and adopt a strong customer voice internally and externally.
  • Strong business mindset and acumen – We need someone with strong financial and commercial acumen and the capability to manage risk.
  • Change leadership – We have been through significant change and there is more to come, particularly as we stand our facility up and start to operate and diversify across other codes.  We need you to be strategic yet tactical, think commercially yet remain local and significant change leadership will support our transition so that our community and team remain front of mind.
  • Agility and flexibility – We need senior leadership capability to build a flexible and inclusive netball Centre that results in a culture of fun, development, aspiration and success.  We also need effectiveness and efficiency in the way we operate within the changing societal/economic environment.  Digital transformation will be one of our largest enablers in achieving an agile and flexible organisation.
  • Innovation – We are redesigning netball for the next 100 years and creating opportunities to grow social alternatives for the game. This requires bold plans to deliver on our CNC priorities and a facility programme that supports growth and community reach.

About you:

You will be a seasoned professional with experience across leadership, operations and strategic execution. Experience in the sporting industry and/or not for profit sector would be favourable. You also won’t mind rolling up your sleeves and working flexibly so that we are present when our community members are engaging with us (weekends and evenings).

We aren’t wedded to any specific education, background or number of years in a role, we are looking for someone who has a proven track record who wants to jump in, roll up their sleeves and help us to get to where we need to be short term and long term.

If you would like to discuss this role, please contact Annie Johnson, Acting General Manager on 0272663283 or email Annie at GM@cnc.org.nz
