St Mary's College is a state-integrated Catholic girls secondary school in central Wellington.  We are a culturally diverse school with a roll of approximately 560 students and a strong sense of community.  St Mary’s has an expansive sports programme and a reputation for sporting excellence.

Our Director of Sport is going on 12 months’ parental leave in August 2025, so we are looking to appoint a full time, fixed term Director of Sport to maintain the leadership and energy of our sports department and ensure the effective delivery of our sports programme while she is gone.

Key objectives of the position include:

• Deliver the annual sports programme and achieve short term goals to advance the school’s longer term goals in sport; 

• Deliver an effective and engaging sports programme through efficient administration, monitoring, organisation, and communications;

• Support the school’s values, culture and ethos through the delivery of the sports programme;

• Inspire sports teams and individuals to demonstrate a commitment to school-wide values;

• Ensure all sport and physical recreation activities are delivered in accordance with school policies.

The Director of Sport reports directly to the Principal and is assisted by a part time administrator who works 20 hours per week.

• The ability to stay calm under pressure 

• Enjoyment of a busy working environment

Flexibility is required in this position as there will be times when travel or attendance at events outside of usual working hours is required.  

All employees of the College are required to support the special character of the school.   Please also note that the appointee will be required to consent to a police safety check in order to hold this position.

Our preferred start date is 4 August 2025 to allow a two-week handover period with the permanent Director of Sport before she goes on leave, but this start date will be negotiated with the successful applicant, if required.
