Group Manager: Kāhui Rautaki Māori - Sport NZ (closes 7 June 2022)

The Group Manager Kāhui Rautaki Māori is a critical new Group Executive Leadership role reporting to the Sport New Zealand Group Chief Executive Officer (Group CEO).

 

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity

Working closely with the Group CEO and senior leadership, you will bring the breadth of your strategic business leadership experience while also providing expertise and direction in Te Ao Māori, to ensure the Sport NZ Group honours its commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You will be responsible for giving life to, and acting as a Kaitiaki of, specific Māori strategies and policies with a focus on improving outcomes for Māori, and removing inequities within the play, active recreation, and sport system.  Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading the Kāhui Rautaki Māori Team
  • Delivering Sport New Zealand (Ihi Aotearoa) and High Performance Sport NZ (HPSNZ) strategies, including our supporting Te Pāke (Māori Outcomes Framework) and Te Aho (Māori Activation Plan)
  • Being part of a new group Executive Team leading organisational evolution and creating a more customer-focused future
  • Developing a bi-cultural approach across the Group lifting Māori cultural capability across the sector.

This is an exciting time to be part of leading Ihi Aotearoa and HPSNZ through a period of change and transition. The Māori representation and strong leadership that already exists on the Ihi Aotearoa Board will soon be enhanced further with the establishment of Te Taumata Māori, a new standalone Māori Governance Roopu that will support the strategic decision making of both Sport NZ and HPSNZ. Int this role, you will work closely with and support the mahi of Te Taumata Māori, operationalising the strategies developed.

 

Ko wai koe | About you

To be successful in this role you will be a respected senior business leader, have successfully led a team to grow the Māori cultural capability across an organisation, have guided the development of partnership with Māori, and be an experienced and trusted advisor at Board and Executive levels. You'll be confident in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and have strong networks, with respected connections to Iwi groups and other Māori organisations. A good understanding of understanding of the play, active recreation and sport sector, and the importance of physical activity will also be crucial.

While our preference if for this role to be Te Whanganui-a-Tara based, Tāmaki Makauru based candidates will be considered.
