Welcome back to those who are remaining in their positions and a big welcome to those who are new in their position at their clubs/schools – we look forward to working with you this year.

Apologies in advance for this lengthy email. There are a few things to cover in the pre-season, some of which may affect how our clubs/schools are using their databases.

Updated contact information:

We ask that the first key contact please completes this
form so we have the correct information for all comms this year. We do ask for a secondary contact as a backup as well. If we could please have these details by Monday 11 March the latest (next Monday) that would be appreciated.

All essential forms for 2024 can be found on our website via this
link. These will also be available to complete in the Netball Wellington app.

Team number due dates:

We know trials are in full force at the moment and naming of teams can be a process. Please note the following due dates for team numbers:

• Thursday 11 April - Premier, Premier Reserve & Senior team number due
• Thursday 18 April - Collegiate team numbers due

Please read intro text of these forms prior to completing them. Prem/Prem Res teams have been added as per the draft grades for this year until we have received final club & school numbers.

Teambuilder 2 (Blue):

Teambuilder is one of the main areas that club/school administrators will be using pre and during the season. Sporty have recently upgraded this to make allocating players to teams and being able to see who is and who is not allocated to a team easier. This should make things more user-friendly and easier for us to identify when new players are registered throughout the season. Here is the
link to our website with the registration process for clubs/schools.

Sporty App Training:

Sporty & NNZ will be holding a Training for the Game Day App on Friday 26 April, 12.30pm. Here is the link to all user guides & training videos available to you.

On this page is the link to register for the training webinar with Sporty as well. Please note: Netball Wellington is the scoring app we use. We do not use MyNetball Manager but concepts covered will be similar.

Rules:

Rules are in the process of being updated to incorporate the new World Netball rules and updated documents. We will be working on a new Player Umpire questionnaire as well as umpire workshops in prep for the season too.

Apologies for the delay in these being a week out from Week 1 for Prem/Prem Res & Senior Grades. Draw is incoming. Premier grades have been published.

Please see our 2024 Winter Competition Rules & Structure via this link. Please ensure all coaches, managers, players, etc. are aware of the rules and each section applicable to them. I will send reminder emails throughout the season regarding important deadline dates, etc. Not a lot of changes to things, but please do keep note of the below.

• Registrations
  • Premier & Premier Reserve teams MUST have at least 1 coach and 1 manager registered to their teams by Friday 26 April. I will be checking this on Friday 26 and will follow up with clubs if this has not been done.
  • Players – All players need to be allocated to their teams by the Friday prior to their first game across ALL grades.
• Scorer Codes
  • Scorer codes can be found in your club/school team builder. This will be located in the top left corner of each team.
  • We will have a list of scorer codes available at the front desk on Saturday’s if needed.
• Final date for new player allocations to teams
  • Thursday 31 May.
  • Any new players after this date MUST be notified to me by email preferably on Friday prior to the player taking the court. If a player takes the court and is not notified to NWC by the Monday 12pm following the game, an unregistered player fine will apply.
• Player Umpire Questionnaire & Umpire 101 sessions
  • Player Umpire Questionnaire’s MUST be completed by ALL players in Premier, Premier Reserve & Senior 1-3 grades by Friday 17 May.
  • Failure of a player completing this by this date will result in them not being able to take the court on Saturday 18 May.

  • Saturday 8 June, 2.30pm OR 3.35pm – Ākau Tangi

  • Shorts may now be worn by full teams in Premier Reserve. Formerly only Senior & Collegiate grades.
• 2024 World Netball Rules
  • These updates have been incorporated throughout our rules in various areas. Please ensure your players are aware of the new World Netball Rules.

Week 1 draft player umpire draw email - sent Tuesday 23 April, 2024

Hi all,

Please see attached the DRAFT Player Umpire draw and schedule for this weekend. For those who are new in their roles and/or if you just need a reminder of how Player Umpiring works, please note below.

• Up to 6 umpires may be required per team, per week and certain grades may need to umpire prior to their games as opposed to after their games. We try to spread this around as much as possible to give teams breaks and keep it even.
• Draft player umpire draws will be sent out by Tuesday the latest each week where there are games played.
• Updated player umpire draws will be sent out on Friday prior to the games. The updated draws may mean that teams are taken off or number of umpires needed are decreased.
• Umpires (reserve & required) must sign in with staff straight after their games and be ready to go on their courts at least 5 mins prior to game time so they can do checks.
• Failure of required or reserve umpires signing in will incur fines and deduction of points per umpire which will also affect their teams, so please ensure your teams know when they are required or reserving.
• Reserve umpires must stay nearby until the start of the round they are reserving. Staff will do a court check once games have started and will advise when reserve umpires can be released.
• Whether umpires are required OR reserved, they must be prepared to umpire. Signed in, whistle ready, shoes on and neutral colour to cover playing uniform if possible.

• Player Umpire Questionnaire must be completed by 17 May.
• Please refer to Rule 4.17 & 4.18 for full overview of requirements & fines.

Update Player Umpire draw schedule - sent Friday 3 May, 2024

Please remind your players that they need to complete the player umpire questionnaire by Friday 17 May. If this is not complete by this time, these players will not be able to take the court on Sat 18 May. If you would like a list of players who are yet to complete these questionnaires, please let me know 😃

Just a couple of additional notes for tomorrow regarding courts:

• Court changes for Prem Res 4 and below at 1.25pm only
• Te Wānanga o Raukawa Pulse are using Court 12 from 1.30pm – 2.15pm. Teams playing on court 12 at 12.20pm, please make sure you are off this court promptly & teams may not use this court for 1.25pm/2.30pm round warmups.
• Court 11 may be used as an additional warmup court from 1.25pm. until 2.15pm.

Updated player umpire draw schedule - sent Friday 10 May, 2024

Please see attached the player umpire draw & schedule. The online schedule will not be updated until later this afternoon as there may be additional changes to come.

Reminder:

• Next Friday 17 May is the due date for the Player Umpire Questionnaire’s to be complete.
• This MUST be completed by all teams in Premier, Premier Reserve, Senior 1/2 P1 & P2 AND Senior 3/4 P1.
• Senior 3/4 P2 is optional at this stage as we are in grading for round 1. They may need to complete this prior to Round 2 so may be good to get this out of the way for them now, but not a requirement yet.
• Round 2: Collegiate teams coming up into Prem Res 5 will need to complete this prior to their first game in Premier Reserve.

Winter Comp General Reminders - sent Wednesday 15 May, 2024

Wow, three going on four weeks into the season already and so far, generally going pretty well. As we want this to continue being a good season, we just want to refine some things as per the below.

I have condensed this into a single email to save the email spam & clubs/schools potentially missing this information.

All Winter Comp Communication

• We now have a page on our website where we keep all key email communication/reminders sent from me to our clubs/schools regarding anything to do with Winter Competition. This email will be one of those.
• To find this information please click this link and bookmark it to have a look at every now and again. Especially if you think you may have missed some comms at any point throughout the season.
• I will refer people to this page should any questions come up about missed comms throughout the season.

NetballSmart observation & injury tracking

• NetballSmart observations have been happening over the last couple of weeks. From these observations, we have seen that warmups need to be more intense as this is a key part of injury prevention.
• Injuries are often not reported to our desk staff so go unnoticed and/or are too major to speak to the injured players about at the time. Whether it’s just a niggle, or players think it isn’t a big deal, we want to hear about it.

• Injury Report Form link – available in the Game Day app and also on our website via this link.
• Please share this injury report form with your team management to forward onto their injured players to complete.
• Injury tracking and reporting is important for us to have as a Centre as this data helps with putting together injury prevention resources in partnership with NetballSmart for future. It also helps us to see which injuries are most common in Netball and how these injuries tend to happen. Please note: personal information of injured players is not shared with anyone beyond the centre and their affiliated club/school.

Jewellery

• We have had a number of players over the last few weeks take the court with various taped piercings. As per our rule’s, taped jewellery is NOT allowed at any level of play. Dispensations will not be granted for players to tape piercings and umpires have the right to prevent a player from taking the court if they are found to have taped piercings/jewellery when they are being checked pre-game.
• We expect umpires (accredited umpires, player umpires and self-allocated umpires) to be doing thorough checks for taped jewellery.
• We expect that players and management are aware of these rules as in the last few weeks umpires have been given grief which is against our code of conduct, for applying the rules correctly and not allowing players on court due to taped jewellery.

Player Umpire Questionnaire – due this Friday 17 May, 5.00pm

• All club/school administrators should have received their list of incomplete registrations yesterday. If you did not receive one, then your team/s have fully completed this.
• I’ll send an updated list on Friday morning for the final push out to the players.
• Player Umpire Questionnaire link if you need to resend out.

Bib clashes when playing own club/school teams

• We understand that kitting out teams to have a variation of bib colours can be a hard task, especially in the Senior & Collegiate grades where there tend to be more than 2 teams from the same club in a single grade.
• Could clubs/schools please ensure that when teams are playing teams from their own club/school, that at least 1 team has a different coloured bib set prepared for their game as we only have a limited number available to hire.

Parking at Ākau Tangi & Hataitai

• Wellington City Council has been in contact and will start visiting both venues to ticket those who are parked illegally, and/or tow cars at the owners expense if they’re blocking traffic flow.

College Winter Comp notes for the next few weeks - sent Wednesday 22 May, 2024 ​​​​

Just wanting to touch base with all our colleges with a few reminders as the season is moving along and we are slowly but surely coming up to the end of round 1.

Please see below a few things we would like to be noted for the next few weeks.

Collegiate 1 Promotion games:

• If you have a team in Collegiate 1 that is in contention to place #1 of their pool – please note the below. I’ll send another reminder around these games on the week prior to June 8.
• As per our rules, the first Collegiate Promotion games will be played on the afternoon of Saturday 8 June. These two games are likely to be played on court 12 at 1.25pm & 2.30pm.
• This draw will be released as soon as all the Collegiate 1 games have been played in the morning. This could be as late as 11am. These games will need to have self-allocated umpires.
• Second round of promotion games: in our rules it’s stated they will need to be played at an agreed time, day & venue of the teams – however, we may be able to fit them into the Saturday afternoon rounds on June 15 so this is TBC.

Mid-season schools meeting:

• To those new in their roles, we hold a mid-season schools meeting to rejig grades and place teams in the correct grades for the remainder of the season from Round 2.
• Our mid-season schools meeting for 2024 will be held in-person on Wednesday 12 June, 10.30am at Oat Café (Ākau Tangi).
• I’ll organise draft round 2 grades on Monday 10 June to send out to everyone prior to the meeting.
• Please let me know if you will be able to attend this by Wednesday 5 June.

Mixed Collegiate grade:

• Last year our Mixed Collegiate grade fell through, which was disappointing. This year we have seen an increase in teams however still do not have a Mixed grade up and running.
• We are hoping for 4-6 mixed teams for a grade, from various schools so that these teams have a good mixture of competition.
• We are keen to get this up and running for round 2 (from 15 June onward- 8 weeks), OR for the final section of the season to allow schools more time to put teams together (27 July – 24 Aug – 5 weeks)
• Please let me know if this could be doable for your college, how many teams you could potentially enter into this grade AND the preferred time frame.

Hope everyone is having a great week and looking forward to a bit of a break this weekend. Just touching base with a few reminders for everybody ahead of next week 😊​​​​​​​

Registration/Team allocation deadline

• ALL Franchise and additional players MUST be registered and allocated to their teams by 11.59pm tonight, Friday 31 May
• Process for players needing to be registered after this time is as follows:
  • Player must register via Club/School Netball Registration form connected to Sporty.
  • If in Prem 1 – Senior 3/4 P1 (subject to change) they must complete the Player Umpire Questionnaire on registration. Even if they are just a fill in, it would be beneficial for them to know what could be applied to them when playing.
  • Club/School contacts must advise me via email of new registrations with the subject “New Player Registration” so that I am able to allocate these players to their teams by Friday 5pm prior to them taking the court.
  • If a player is called in last minute on a Saturday – Club/School contacts must complete a paper “New Player Registration” to avoid an unregistered player fine.

Collegiate Promotion Games

• The first round of Collegiate 1 Promotion games will be played on the afternoon of Sat 8 June.
• I’ll work in the morning to have these games posted up as soon as the contenders have completed their games in the AM.
• Game times for these games will be: 1 x 1.25pm (1^st Coll 1 P1 vs P4) & 1 x 2.30pm (1^st Coll 1 P2 vs P3) on court 12.
• Games will be self-umpired like the Collegiate games normally are.
• I’ll send a separate email to the schools with teams in contention for these games early next week.

Player of the Day (POD) Certificates

• Teams selected for Player of the Day will now select a player from their OWN team and not the opposition.
• Paper slips are no longer handed out. Push Alerts vis the game day app will be sent to teams on Saturday mornings, so please ensure your team admins/scorers have notifications enabled for our app.
• Please send your Player of the Day to the Sports Control Desk (Ākau Tangi) or Hataitai Pavilion after their game
  • Collegiate: Ben & Jerry’s A-MOO-ZING players receive a free scoop voucher for the Wellington Scoop shop.
  • All other grades: Star Social KICK-ASS players receive a 2 for 1 main meal voucher redeemable at any of the Wellington venues. Free meal to the max value of $35.

Player Umpire Schedule/Draw

• Please ensure your teams are looking at both the draw and the schedule. You can view these in the same spreadsheet, they are just on different tabs.
• I’ll send the DRAFT Player Umpire draw & schedule later this afternoon for next weekend (8 June) so everyone is well aware of umpire duties.

Collegiate promotion games - Sat 8 June PM - sent Wednesday 5 June, 2024

Hey team,

Just touching base as you have a team or teams in the top of Collegiate 1, who have the potential to be playing in the Promotion games on the afternoon of Sat 8 June. Please pass the below information onto the team management of the below teams (blue teams are definite due to large differential and comp pts):

• Wgtn Girls 5
• Scots 2
• Tawa 2
• Marsden 3
• St Mary’s 4
• St Cath’s 1

All teams are playing their final game of round 1 either at 8.00am or 9.05am which means I should be able to get the draw for the promotion games on the app by 10.30am the latest. This will mean 4 of these top 6 teams will be playing 2 games on Sat 8 June.

For those who don’t know the process for these games, it is as follows:

• 1^st place in each Collegiate 1 pool will play 2 rounds of promotion games to determine which Prem Reserve grade they end up in for Round 2.
• Round 1 - Sat 8 June
  • Game #1: 1^st Coll 1 Pool 1 vs 1^st Coll 1 Pool 4 – 1.25pm – Court 12
  • Game #2: 1^st Coll 1 Pool 2 vs 1^st Coll 1 Pool 3 – 2.30pm – Court 12
• Round 2 – Sat 15 June (initially stated that these games needed to be organised by schools)
  • Game #3: Winner Game 1 vs Winner Game 2 – 1.25pm – Court 12 (Winner promoted to PR4, Loser places in PR5)
  • Game #4: Loser Game 1 vs Loser Game 2 – 2.30pm – Court 12 (Friendly – both teams promoted to PR5)
• All 4 games will need to be self-provided umpires

From Sat 22 June games will be umpired by Player Umpires. The 4 teams promoted will also be added to the umpire roster from this time. Please ensure all players in the teams promoted complete the Player Umpire Questionnaire by 22 June as this will now be a playing requirement in Prem Res 4 & 5. I’ll send the link to the confirmed schools next week.

Collegiate Round 2 DRAFT grades - sent Monday 10 June, 2024

As promised, please see attached the draft grades for the Collegiate Competition Round (Round 2).

Just a couple of things to note with the attached:

• Teams with a double ** have been mentioned to me as teams that schools are looking at moving either up or down
• There is now a BYE in the Collegiate 5D grade as a team has withdrawn
• Junior Coll 1C is a pool of 8 teams. This grade will play a 7-week round robin (no QF or SF) and will play a GF game at the end of the season along with all other Grand Finals.

Reminder: We have the mid-season schools meeting this Wednesday 12 June, 10.30am at Oat Café (Ākau Tangi). If you have not confirmed your attendance, please do let me know in response to this.

Inter-satellite competition - sent Tuesday 11 June, 2024

The Inter-Satellite competition is slowly but surely approaching and we can’t wait to see your top teams for 2024 in action up at Hataiati.

Please find attached the format for this year’s Intersatellite competition. This format aligns with our competitions (after the school holidays) and hopefully will align with each of the Satellites round 2.  

We have a few options for times, so if you could please advise of the best time/s that would work for you, I’ll go with the majority vote and confirm this later this week. If you could all please let me know by 12pm tomorrow that would be amazing, as I’ll have to base our Collegiate draw for round 2 around the preferred time as well:

• 10.10am (prior to our collegiate comp)
• 11.15am (play alongside our collegiate teams)
• 12.20pm (play alongside our collegiate teams)

As soon as you are all aware of your top teams, could the contact details for coaches/managers please be sent through to me in order of the teams rankings so I can ensure I pool the teams correctly 😊

I will get the team registration link and rules organised for your top teams and get this sent to you all once these teams have been confirmed. If all coach/manager contact details are in by next week, I’ll send it out sooner rather than later. I’ll then work on the draw during the first week of the school holidays.

Apologies for the absolute spam some of you are receiving from me this week.

Firstly, congratulations to your teams for taking out their Collegiate 1 pool in round 1. First round of Collegiate Promo games is complete, and we move onto round 2 this weekend. Please see the below.

Game #3: St Mary’s 4 vs St Cath’s 1, 2.30pm, court 12.

• W of this game will be promoted to Prem Res 4 and L will be highest ranked of the collegiate teams in Prem Res 5.

Game #4: Wgtn Girls 5 vs Tawa 2, 1.25pm, court 12.

• Both teams to be promoted to Prem Res 5. Result will determine their ranking in PR5.

As mentioned in last weeks email these teams will now be added to the Player Umpire roster from Sat 22 June. Please ensure all players in these 4 teams complete the Player Umpire Questionnaire by Saturday 22 June in order to be eligible to take the court from that weekend and further.

Really lovely to see/meet you all today and make the changes needed for round 2.

Please find attached the updated grades. Please see below the on changes made today.

• Wgtn Girls 8 have been moved down into Coll 2A from Coll 1D
• Wgtn High 3 have been moved up into Coll 1D from Coll 2A
• Marsden 5 have been moved down into Coll 4A from Coll 3C
• Onslow 5 have been moved up into Coll 3C from Coll 4A
• WEGC 19 have been moved down into Coll 4D from Coll 4C
• St Cath’s 4 have moved up into Coll 4C from Coll 4D
• Pending change: St Cath’s 3 & St Cath’s 4 swapping their grades

I will get started on the Coll 1, 2, 5 & JColl draws and hopefully get that published by 10am tomorrow morning at the latest. Until I’ve heard from St Cath’s on their decision, I won’t be able to proceed with Coll 3 & 4 until after this has been confirmed.

Reminder that the Premier and Senior promotion/relegation games are this Wednesday night at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre. These games are available to view online.

If your teams have not already been given the heads up from push alerts sent on Saturday night and earlier today – please ensure they are aware of the below.

Premier Promotion games.

Wednesday 19 June. Courts from 6.30pm for warmup – games start 6.45pm.

• Premier 2 Promo/Relegation: Vic Uni 1 vs Ories 1 – Court 7
• Premier 3 Promo/Relegation: Kia Ora 2 vs WEGC 1 – Court 8

Premier game length (60min, 3min Q breaks, 5min HT). Will follow Premier tied playoff procedure if draw at full time.

Senior Promotion game.

Wednesday 19 June. Court from 6.30pm for warmup - game starts at 6.45pm.

• SMOG 9 vs Vic Uni 8 – Court 11

Game length (40mins, 1.5min Q breaks, 2min HT). Will follow PR/Snr/Coll tied playoff procedure if draw at full time.

Teams are expected to show up ahead of the game start time, in uniform, ready to play. There will be social Basketball on at the same time, so please allow enough time to find a park. These games cannot be defaulted or played at any other time or on any other day as the draw is delayed until these games can be played.

Winter Comp Updates & Reminders - sent Wednesday 10 July

Hope everyone is well and staying safe. Just touching base with a few updates & reminders before we head into the home stretch of the season next weekend.

Sideline Behaviour

• Positive sideline behaviour and comments encourages all our athletes, including umpires, to perform at their best.
• Please ensure your teams & benches are aware to refrain from making any negative comments on the sideline, throughout the game.

New Player Registrations

• We have had a number of New Player Regos after the last few weeks which have been completed by paper form ONLY on a Saturday. As stated in our rules, these players must also be registered to the club/school by 12pm Monday following taking the court to avoid having an unregistered player fine applied.
• New players in Premier 1 – Senior 2 MUST complete the Player Umpire Questionnaire when registering.
• Please make sure your coaches know to notify you so you are aware as club captains/sports directors when your teams are registering new players as this will make your job & my job a lot smoother.
• Preferably I’d like to know about new players by 5pm on Friday (specifically in Prem & Prem Res) so I can allocate them prior and team substitutions can be made in the app correctly on a Saturday. I know this is not always doable though, which is why we have the Monday deadline.

Player of the Day (POD)

• Premier, Prem Res & Senior grades - ALL teams in these grades will be selected every weekend for the remainder of the season for POD. These certificated double as a 2-4-1 voucher which can be used at any Star Social group venue in the Wellington Region
• Collegiate – Select grades each week to spread these out. These certificated double as a voucher for a Free Scoop of Ben & Jerry’s at the Wellington Scoop shop.
• Push alerts are sent to team admins & scorers of teams for this, so please ensure your teams have their notifications on for our app.

Game day app update:

• Chat2Team
  • Some of your scorers may have seen a new “Chat2Team” feature in the app. For more info on how to use this feature, please follow this link.
  • Please note: This functionality will only be useful if all team members have their personal email addresses linked to their registrations.
• Push Alerts
  • As mentioned above, please ensure all your regular scorers have notifications enabled for push alerts.
  • Push alerts are used for POD selection, cancellations, changes to the draw and any applicable updates.

No play weekends

• Sat 13 July – No games for all grades
• Sat 20 July – No games for Collegiate level only

Mid-season feedback

• As we’re just over half way through the season, I’d love to have some feedback from our clubs and schools. We are excited about our first Winter comp games happening this coming Saturday at Ākau Tangi Sport Centre for our Prems, Prem Reserve and Senior teams, management and supporters.

Please find attached the rules for 2023. These along with all forms for the season are available via this page on our website.

Key changes for you to be aware of:

1. We require all teams to have their coach and manager name in Sporty so that we can use the AppointMe Umpire notification app.
2. We require under the Incorporated Society Act to have all players/member’s correct details listed in Sporty. If you share the team with the players in each team, they can log in themselves to ensure their information is correct.
3. Rule 4.18.1 - It is compulsory for teams in Premier, Premier Reserve and Senior 1-3 grades to complete before Friday 19 May 2023 the NWC Player Umpire Questionnaire. This is available to complete via the Netball Wellington Game Day app and on our website. Failure to complete this questionnaire by 19 May 2023 will result in the players not being able to take the court on 20 May 2023 and thereafter until they have completed it.
   It is recommended all player umpires attend the Umpiring Rules 101 virtual sessions on 1 May and 24 May. Here is the link to register for these workshops.
4. Rule 4.9 (f) Collegiate players and Senior grade players may substitute registered uniform top & shorts in place of skirt/dress. All uniform amendments must follow stipulations stated in (g). A Club Administrator or School Sport Coordinator may apply in writing to NWC for a variation from the registered uniform. A Uniform Registration form must be completed for any uniform changes.  For teams playing outside, consideration may be given to players wearing sweatshirts during inclement weather. All requests are to be in writing to NWC Community Competitions Officer at games@netballwellington.co.nz.”
5. Rule 4.11.2 Change in Prem Res, Senior, Collegiate & Junior playing up – the 5^th time play up, the player must remain in a higher ranked team for the rest of the season. Senior A School teams are an exception to this rule – as per Rule 4.11.2.1 where the 6^th time they stay up. Please note Premier 1-3 has remained as 3^rd time playing up, the player must remain in a higher ranked team for the rest of the season.

Player umpire draw

The player umpire draw will come out Monday each week. This is subject to change i.e. teams possibly removed from their duty or moved onto reserve, and will aim to be confirmed by Friday 10 am. Any major changes the club will be advised, and Manager will be advised via AppointMe.

Game Day App

We will be using the Game Day app again this year. Here is the link to the page with refreshers and FAQ’s.

Please let managers/scorers/coaches know that teams will need to score and register teams via the Netball Wellington App. Team Player Substitutions will need to be completed by ALL Premier teams throughout the game. If there are players who have been selected as part of a game day team as a sub and have not taken the court for that week, please send me an email on games@netballwellington.co.nz on Monday with the name of the player/s and their team so I am able to remove them from the team sheet. If this is not done within a week of that game, this will affect the player’s eligibility and will count as a game played up if pulled in from another team.

I will get the 2023 scorer codes to all clubs and schools by the end of this week.
