COACHES
Give back to your old school or help out your siblings - coach a primary, intermediate or early college team!
Attend futureFERNS Year 1-8 beginner coach workshops and expand your netball knowledge. You'll receive an online resource with 10 weeks of training activities and links to videos to view them in action. Handy also for parent coaches moving up a level.
Be sure to sign up through your school to attend the Student Coaching Day organised by Nuku Ora and College Sport Wellington (see video on this page) timed for May held at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre where you can gain some theory and practical experience.
If you miss out attending the College Coaching Day then look out for a Community Coach Starter workshop run by Netball Wellington Centre or ask your sport coordinator if they can arrange for us to run one in your school. By attending you'll receive a resource with 12 weeks of training plans pre-planned for you.
Progress along the Netball NZ coach pathway - first step is to attend the Player Centred Coaching workshop. We’ll support you further if you wish to work your way towards achieving nationally recognised coaching awards. Learn alongside other coaches experiencing the same things with the same burning questions. Join our mailing list or find out more by emailing Maria at ndo@netballwellington.co.nz.
There are also free online workshops on a range of topics that you can work through at your own pace using Netball New Zealand's Sport Tutor portal. Register for free & explore at leisure.
RANGATAHI ADVISORY GROUP & NETBALL LEADERS PROGRAMME
Share your opinion and help our centre better cater to the needs of our youth. We'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can create more energy around our kaupapa (why we're here) and kaitiakitanga (protecting who we are & what we do) therefore improving enjoyment for our members of all ages. Put your hand up to take part in a group and meet others, grow your confidence and gain leadership experience at the same time.
Follow Netball New Zealand's Netball Leaders Programme aimed at growing young leaders through netball. Netball Leaders recognises sport can be a powerful influence in the development of young people. This Netball New Zealand endorsed programme uses netball as a vehicle to develop tools and skills to be a positive young leader in their netball centre, school or community. There are three award stages: leadership learning to achieve the Bronze Award, preparing to give-back in one of three pathways (Netball Activator, Umpire or Coach) to achieve the Silver Award and leadership in action in the chosen pathway to achieve the Gold Award.
If interested in taking this direction, please email Sue at gm@netballwellington.co.nz.
We’d love to welcome you as part of our netball community at Netball Wellington Centre - please do not hesitate to get in touch if there’s something we can help you with. You can also join our NWC Student Coaches Corner Facebook group to receive updates and helpful information fed direct to you.

For most colleges, there is a deficit between the number of coaches and the number of students wanting to participate in sport. The Student Coaching Day is organised by Nuku Ora in partnership with College Sport Wellington to provide senior students with the skills and confidence they need to coach - and provide a positive impact for their participants.
